Rototom Sunsplash won't forget its roots or where it came from... organising a great tribute to Friuli and its people with the open and clear intention of continuing its struggle for freedom.

Friday July 2nd and Saturday July 3rd 'Rototom Free' will make its debut in the heart of the North East of Italy at Cormor Park in Udine, not far from the original home of Rototom Sunsplash.

A two-day, free entry event comprising concerts showcasing some of the most popular italian and international reggae artists, such as Alpha Blondy from the Ivory Coast, Fantan Mojah from Jamaica and for the dancehall area Supersonic from Berlin.

In addition to the concerts, the rich programme will feature debates, stands, children activities…basically a mini-Sunsplash!

Rototom Sunsplash, have explored many other musical genres, that many fans can relate to, African and Jamaican musical traditions. This year Rototom becomes a Mediterranean festival and have feel the time has come to venture into new musical areas. Raï is a form of Algerian pop that combiens traditional aspects and "world" sounds, including the reggae beat and its hypnotic bass lines.
Khaled is one of the most popular Raï performers and his music is strongly influenced by Bob Marley: the reggae hero inspired both Khaled's conscious lyrics and social engagement against the fundamentalist Algerian parties.
Such a social committment has cost many other Rai artists their life, among them Cheb Hasni. Khaled's latest album "Libertè" was released in 2009; the singer is also well know for his incredible hit-single "Didi", dating back to 1992.
