GinJah’s real name is Valentine Nakrumah Fraser. He was born in St. James, Jamaica in 1978: his professional name Ginjah – a misspelling of the word ginger - was chosen by Beres Hammond, due to his love of ginger beer, a popular drink in Jamaica. This singer started recording tunes for Harmony House in 2000. His most successful single during this period was probably the hit featuring Hammond - ‘Rise above’.
Ginjah has been opening shows for Beres Hammond all over the world, including several performances with him in Italy.
In 2004 he left Harmony House and established his own label ‘I Land Music’. In 2007 he climbed the Jamaican singles charts with his hit single ‘Music alone’. Throughout the years Ginjah has teamed up with many producers. Among them some European names such as Italy's 'One Love' and Germany's 'Rootdown' and 'Pow Pow'. Some of his latest tunes such as ‘Prayer’, ‘Never lost my way’ and ‘Welcome to my world’ were produced by ‘Flava’ McGregor - one of the best emerging producers in the Jamaican reggae scene. |
